Russian SKS M49 cal. 7.62X39 Cold War rifle SOLD
Product Description
Excellent overall original condition with original factory finish is at about 99%. Excellent laminated wood with original factory staining and varnish, some very minor handling nicks. Excellent crisp action and mirror bright bore with sharp rifling. Rifle is unfired, unissued condition and has all numbered parts matching to the serial number, no renumbered parts.
This rifle doesn't have a usual Date of production/Acceptance but it has a date code on the right end of the serial number it is a Cyrillic letter "E" It is very hard to pinpoint the exact year as information about Letter coding dates is scarce and questionable. but by looking at some parts and method of milling I would conclude that the rifle was made post 1954 and not later than 1959.
Tula Star and the date were marked on the receiver cover to indicate Manufacturer and the year of acceptance by military inspectors. If rifle doesn't have such markings it was built for any of the Warsaw pact countries or China, Vietnam or North Korea (Info was provided by Izhmash and couldn't be confirmed by any documentation it was just a telephone conversation about same type dating on Makarov PM pistols) and if this is true than we can narrow the dates of production as it is known that since 1956 most of Warsaw Pact Countries and China were producing ther own SKS rifles.
