One of two copies of Astra M21 (400) made by Spanish Republican Government during Spanish Civil War.

Shortage of M21 pistols supply by the Astra factory prompted Republican government to start production of of two copies one was named F.Ascaso after well known Spanish Anarchist and second named "Republica Espanola" RA.  RA were manufactured by private firm in Valencia and F. Ascaso by Republican controlled Arsenal in Tarrasa. In 1937 General Franco captured Astra factory production leaving Republican Government no choice but proceed with production of copies. Estimated production of F.Ascaso was about 8,000 and RE at about 15,000 pistols.

The pistol offered for sale is in fine overall condition. Original factory salt blue finish is at about 90-95% with some edge wear and wear on the grip straps. Some handling nicks and light scratches, also small initials lightly scratched on the right side of the frame above trigger guard. Action is tight and works fine, bore is bright and very tight at the muzzle but has some light indenting and scratches in places. Surface of the bore at the muzzle is clean and bright no damage. Original plastic grips show some light handling nicks, no cracks. Pistol is all matching by the assembly number "99"  Pistol comes with one magazine marked "Astra". Original magazines were marked "RE" No import marks.
